COURSE OUTLINE
This Level 2 qualification is designed to equip the candidate with an improved understanding of Health and Safety within the workplace. An emphasis is placed upon making the employee safe for himself/herself, safe for others and capable of identifying potential hazards. Most accidents are attributable to a lack of knowledge or to carelessness. This award focuses on increasing awareness as crucial to improvement.

General principles of Health and Safety in the Workplace:
- Terms and systems relating to Health and Safety
- Employers’ responsibilities for Health and Safety
- Employees’ responsibilities for Health and Safety
The nature of hazards and risks in the workplace and their possible effects:
- Hazards and risks relating to the environment of the workplace and their appropriate controls
- Hazards and risks relating to work equipment and their appropriate controls
- Hazards and risks relating to fire and electricity in the workplace and their appropriate controls
Hazards and risks likely to affect the occupational health of individuals:
- Substances that are hazardous to health and their appropriate controls
- Hazards and risks due to manual handling, noise and stress; and their appropriate controls
TRAINING DURATION AND ASSESSMENT
This is a short programme usually delivered over one day with a multiple-choice examination that consists of 25 questions to be answered in 40 minutes the end of the day.
COURSE TUTOR
Our trainer Ursula Walsh BSc, MSc, PG Dip Acoustics, PG Dip Occupational H&S, ICDL, PdChep. Ursula Walsh is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with 16 years experience as a practitioner in various UK and NI Councils. He has over 20 years experience delivering training on courses such as food safety, health and safety and environmental awareness. Ursula has also worked as a Health and Safety Inspector with the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.
