Being committed to responsible alcohol retailing means that running a safe and welcoming hassle free licensed premises can be challenging! The Counter Measures and Off Limits courses have been designed to help the staff of licensed premises to meet these challenges.
Free staff training courses in responsible alcohol retailing for the licensed trade are sometimes available through local councils and police and community safety partnership sponsored programmes as they have a vested interest in helping the industry to become responsible alcohol retailers.
The preferred training organisations for the joint delivery of these courses are SORT TRAINING and BAR CZAR LTD in association with HOSPITALITY ULSTER.
There are two different courses on offer. For the pubs, clubs and hotel bars the training course is called COUNTER MEASURES and for the off licences the staff training course is called OFF LIMITS. These training courses can be delivered directly to individual companies for a set fee or companies can send staff on local council funded courses if they are available
By focusing on responsible service these courses look at ways to avoid legal actions by acting responsibly and how to create a safer environment for staff and customers by avoiding conflict from difficult customers. Experienced Licensed Trade trainers Siofra O’Reilly and Michael Stewart have already delivered this course within 20 different council areas. They deliver an informative knowledge based course with practical sessions built in and the courses last between 5 and 6 hours covering the potential harm of excessive alcohol consumption , legal duties within the framework of Northern Ireland’s liquor licensing laws and how staff should deal with customers when they have to refuse service.
These courses are designed and updated by Siofra O’Reilly in line with legislation changes and new public health announcements regarding alcohol.
These courses are suitable for all customer facing staff from service to management level. Both new staff and very experienced staff have on previous courses stated that they found the Off Limits and Counter Measures courses very helpful.
